SMM or Social media marketing is the actual equivalent of crack cocaine to what SEO or search engine optimization is to marketing.

Yes this seems like the strangest analogy of search engine or social media marketing you have ever heard, but in concept SMM does hold true to being the crack of SEO’s coke. Now to drop the linkbait trainwreck terms out of our ’state or online marketing’ report.

SMM is the common favorite catch term for web 2.0 advertising and is very much a fast visible source of website traffic. Social network marketing can produce real human eyeballs to a website faster than anything short of unbudgeted top paying Google advertising. The major difference in the eyes of the mass public and corporate business like one thing better than customers. Business likes money. Google adsense advertising can be very expensive social media on the other hand can provide low cost and even free traffic for a web site and SMM experts have been known to send over one million real human visits to a website in hours.

Here is the problem, here is the reason I can call social media network marketing the internet’s business equal to crack cocaine. SMM is renowned for how fast you get visitors to your webpages but they are notorious bad revenue generators. If your only intent is to brand you company or concepts online SMM networking may be good, but if your business needs profits to sustain it, your going to have some SMO (social media optimization) problems. Social website users are not looking to buy anything when they come to your site, they don’t want to click your ads and in fact if they even think your website would DARE to make a single penny from there visiting, will go on a anti-business spam loco rampage. So you may get a really exciting rush as your stats get amazingly high for the first time. In the long run your stats are high and your pockets are empty.

SEO whether it is in the form of SEM (search engine marketing) website optimization reputation management or link campaigns is not going to get you the same ‘high’ as SMM. Search optimization done properly is a long term business plan. A path to greater company growth by leveraging ROI ( return on investment ) against a period of time. This is and has been the only sure way to constantly ‘get your fix’ and keep your online business models making money. Yet again we have an analogy, SEO in the current market is still going to eventually break the bank to feed your need.

So what else is there … cheap and often valueless traffic …. expensive but effective traffic. Well at this point if your still reading, your probably thinking ‘yeah I guess I’ll do the cocaine". Ok bad joke there but I don’t do coke or crack and I always hit the top ten on search engines.

This sounds huge or complicated possibly even futuristic. It is not. The internet is not about keyword density, the world wide web could care less how many directory backlinks you’ve got, search engines don’t give a rip about your use of alt tags in every image. Content as it has long been whispered is still king. Solid human readable simple useful tools and uncluttered layouts will win every time. Why would I say such a ridiculous thing as what I’m implying….? Because its true.

Content is the site killer without it your can be the fastest coolest or most bookmarked but you’ll never get a reliable customer base. Customers are what business lives on, and EVERY website or person working online is in business. Non profits to secret corporate sponsored blackhat website rings. Its all business. The way you win in any business is to take care of customers and online that means … you must have useful content. Simple, now go put something useful on your site and stop wasting time surfing.
